Dell Inspiron 518 – The Perfect Desktop For Everyday Use

June 16th, 2010

Dells extensive desktop family now includes the new Inspiron 518. Backed by the Dell name, quality, and power, this mini tower desktop provides high performance for any type of user. With a shiny black casing and beautiful chrome accents, this desktop can make any office or room look a bit more exotic. The Inspirons budget, along with functionality, is geared a bit more towards families and students than those techy individuals out there.
The Inspiron 518 starts at $329. This is for the basic build with not extras or upgrades. As with any Dell, you can customize the build of your Inspiron 518 to meet your specifications. The more you add the higher the sticker price will go. Regardless, this is one of the most powerful computers on the market – especially for the price.
Under the hood you will find a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 256 ATI Radeon HD 3450, and a 320GB 5,400rpm hard drive. The Inspiron 518 also has gigabit Ethernet for fast connection speeds, dual-layer DVD burner, and operates on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (32-bit).
Currently the Inspiron does not support 64-bit operating system, and cannot be upgraded to such without an upgrade to internal hardware. If you are planning to upgrade to Windows 7, you will need to consider this seriously, as the new operating system is 64-bit. Other manufacturers are selling similar desktops on 64-bit operating systems, so this is a step behind for Dell.
The overall design, of the Insprion 518, is quite sleek and easy on the eyes. Dell did not stop with the overall appearance; they actually added a tray, to the top of the mini tower, for easy storage of small plug-n-play devices. Additionally, there were two USB 2.0 ports added, near the tray, to allow users to conveniently charge and connect with these devices.
Dell provides consumers with friendly interfaces and easy navigation. To increase the user experience, they have now added what is called the Dell Dock. Similar to Vistas sidebar, you can customize this dock to hold icons for your favorite applications and files. This gives you easy one-click access to those things you use most. You can customize where the dock appears, on your desktop, along with the option to completely shut it off.
There are a few features, that Dell normally offers, that are not available on the Inspiron 518. Consumers cannot upgrade their optical drive to a Blu-ray drive. Draft-N-Wireless is an available extra on this model. As for graphics cards, your choices are limited. You will either have to choose the low-end graphic card, or stick with the ATI Radeon HD 3450 as no other options are available. There are still many other extras that can be added, but you are limited on the Inspiron 518, unlike many other Dell machines.
This is a great desktop for everyday personal use. Whehter you are a college or high school student, or simply need a computer for the entire family, this is a good deal. The Inspiron 518 is backed by the Dell name and provides users with outstanding performance, numerous features, and is extremely user-friendly.

Bkf Restoration Fails In Windows 7

June 16th, 2010

BKF files are supported by most of the versions of Windows. But, the latest version of Windows, i.e Windows 7, does not support restoration of data using BKF files. Hence, an error message is displayed everytime an attempt is made to restore the BKF file in Windows 7. However, the error may also appear if the BKF file is corrupt or damaged, which results in failure of the restoration process. As a result, all your data that was backed up in the BKF file gets stuck and you cannot access it. However, if you do have an additional or second copy of a backup available with you, you can access the data. But, if no such backup is available, then you will have to repair BKF file using a third-party file repair application.

Take a practical example – You want to upgrade your Windows XP system to Windows 7. So, you create a BKF file using Windows NTBackup on Windows XP and backup all your data. But, the problem arises when you receive an error message while trying to restore the BKF file on Windows 7. The error states:

“the backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used”

After this error appears, the restoration process from the BKF file fails. Moreover, you receive the same error message everytime you try to restore data from the BKF file.

Cause:

Following are the most probable causes for the issue:

This error occurs because Windows 7 does not support BKF file nor does it have any restoration tool.
Another reason can be BKF file corruption.

Resolution:

Windows 7 does not support BKF file restoration. In such a case, you have to wait until the NTBackup utility for Windows is released.
But, if in case the file is corrupt, then you need to go for a BKF repair software to repair bkf file. This helps you to retrieve all the data from the BKF file. The software does a complete scan and repair of your BKF file by employing powerful scanning algorithms. It does not overwrite the original data of the BKF file after restoring. An additional feature of these tools is that they are interactive in nature, and, hence easy to use and understand.

Recovering Corrupted Bkf File In Windows 7

June 16th, 2010

We all know how important it is to safeguard our valuable data against various threats of data loss. For this purpose, the Windows NT (Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003) users have the option to backup their data using the NTBackup utility. This utility, which creates the backup in a .bkf file, is archived and restored using the Backup option in Windows. However, sometimes the BKF file can get corrupt due to various reasons making you unable to restore it. Windows does not provide any in-built utility to repair BKF files. So, in such cases you should use a third-party BKF repair software to repair BKF file.

Consider a scenario wherein you want to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. You create a backup of all your data in a BKF file and format the system drive and install Windows 7. However, when you try to restore the BKF file you are not able to do so. Then, you install Windows XP to make it a dual boot system. Now, when you try to restore the BKF file you are unable to restore it. An error message is displayed, that is:
“The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used.”

Cause:
The cause of this situation is that the NTBackup utility is not supported in Windows 7. Therefore, the BKF files cannot be restored in the later version than Windows XP. However, when you try to restore the BKF file in Windows XP even then it fails to do so. This may be because of the fact that the BKF file may have got corrupt due to various reasons such as virus infections, media errors, CRC errors, interruptions while creating backup, etc.

Resolution:
To restore the BKF file in a Windows 7 system, you need to download the NT Backup Restore Utility for Windows 7 by navigating to the following URL.

After downloading and installing the utility, you should run NTBackup-RestoreUtility by following the Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | NTBackup-RestoreUtility path.

However, if you are not able to restore the data it means that the BKF file is corrupt. In such cases, you should use a third-party BKF repair tool to repair the corrupted BKF file. Such tools are read-only in nature and do not overwrite the original BKF file while performing BKF repair.

Windows 7 Upgrade To Reduce Operational Hazards

June 16th, 2010

Windows 7 features as one of the leading operating systems in the recent era and its international launch is expected very soon. Still, there remains a considerable doubt among the users whether they should shift from Vista to Windows 7. Before the final switch, there are several issues which one should keep in mind.

If as an user Windows 7 Upgrade Windows Vista really suits you there is no reason for a sudden changeover. As an user the level of comfort when using a particular operating system should be the topmost priority and it should not be compromised at any stage. But the experts from Microsoft have been harping about how Windows 7 hopes to captivate the global market but whether it really happens is a matter of conjecture.

On the other hand, if as an user you are not satisfied by the performance of your Windows Vista, then a switch is evident. If you are a very random user and work with subsequent amount of files and folders, the transformation might just take a time period of 20 hours. It’s quite a long time, but true in every respect. But if you want to switch with a clean installation process in your mind, then the time frame would be reduced considerably. A Windows Automated Installation Kit or System Centre Configuration Manager can be used to reduce the time limit as much as possible.

As an user you expect the best output from the system and Windows 7 is better than Vista in terms of mobility. It has all the configurations which a Vista offers and its speed is much better.

There are also an array of new features like touch and handwriting recognition, virtual hard disks support, enhanced performance on multi core processors and heterogeneous graphic cards which makes work easier. There are also several visual changes which have been applied to the taskbar and the Quick Launch toolbar has been substituted by pinning applications.

Get going with Windows 7 Upgrade and turn tech savvy for better results every day.

Failed Upgrade Process May Cause Partition Loss in Windows 7

June 16th, 2010

Microsoft Windows 7 is the most advanced and latest version of Windows operating system, which is a successor of Microsoft Windows Vista. It is compatible with all hardware and software, with which MS Windows Vista is compatible. Along with the features of Windows Vista, Windows 7 also includes enhanced and added security features, performance, and interactive graphical user interface. In order to take benefit of advanced features of Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, various users want to upgrade to it. However, under some circumstances, the upgrade process may fail and you may lose access to both of the operating systems. This behavior renders your entire system inaccessible and cause severe partition loss. In the event of partition loss, you need to go for Partition Recovery solutions, if there is no backup in place.

In a practical scenario of upgrade failure and partition loss, several system applications may not work properly after you upgrade to Microsoft Windows 7 x64 build 7100 from Microsoft Windows Vista x64. When you try to launch Event Viewer to check the system errors and events, you come across the underwritten error message:

“C:Windowssystem32eventvwr.msc
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.”

The problem occurs with various other system applications, including Device Manager. After this behavior, you can not log into Windows system and access stored data. In order to get your precious data recovered in such cases, you must identify root of this behavior and then perform Windows Partition Recovery by fixing it.

Cause

The problem may occur due to incomplete upgrade process. The upgrade process may fail because of various reasons, such as power failure or system crash. Improper security settings may also cause same problem.

Solution

If the problem is caused by security settings, check and modify your settings in the Local Security Policy- Local Policies- Security Options. In case the problem is caused by security settings, you need to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7 operating system. It causes severe partition loss and you need Partition Recovery Software to handle the situation.

The applications effectively Recover Partition in all cases of partition loss using advanced scanning techniques. The software do not alter original data on the hard drive owing to their read-only and non-destructive conduct.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software easily and effectively recovers lost Windows hard drive partitions, even without sound prior technical skills. The software retrieves all NTFS5, NTFS, FAT32, VFAT, FAT16, and FAT12 file system partitions. The software works well with Microsoft windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000.

How Eco-Friendly Are Condos in Arlington VA?

Arlington Virginia is one of the first counties in the country to develop its own certification of eco-friendly home building, called Arlington Green Home Choice. The program defines a green home as being a “healthy, comfortable, cost efficient home that reduces energy and water usage and protects the environment”. Components of a green home (as outlined by the Arlington Green Home Choice website) may include:

Specific construction practices to minimize and recycle construction waste; Careful insulation practices; Nontoxic interior finishes (low VOC paint, sealants, and carpeting); Components made from renewable resources (such as cork or bamboo floors, wheatboard cabinetry); Recycled content components (such as recycled glass tiles, recycled-content countertops); Energy efficient appliances (Energy Star rated refrigerator, dishwasher, water heater, etc.); Photovoltaic (solar) panels; Water efficient appliances and landscape irrigation (front loading clothes washers and moisture sensing irrigation systems); Stormwater collection (rainbarrels or larger cisterns); Careful placement of shade trees; Careful placement of windows to maximize interior light and ventilation.

The program was originally developed to recognize new homes being built within Arlington County that included these attributes. It has recently evolved to accommodate homes that have been significantly renovated to obtain the Arlington Green Home Choice standards.

Obviously this program pertains to single family homes. What about condos in Arlington VA? One condominium in Arlington that is especially eco-friendly is the Wooster and Mercer Lofts. Using commercial grade windows and high quality insulation materials, the building is exceptionally tight. Each unit is equipped with a separately housed HVAC system that draws fresh air from the outside rather than recirculating stale air. The result is healthier air quality.

Whether you live in a Wooster loft or another condo in Arlington VA, you can live an eco-friendly lifestyle. One of the wonderful attributes that most condominiums in Arlington share is a walkability. The condominiums existing along the Orange Line metrorail are especially walkable. Whether it be shopping, dining, nightlife or even commuting to work, many Arlingtonians find that they can get by without a car. The less dependent residents are on their automobiles the less taxing they tend to be on the environment.

Arlington has wonderful recycling programs in place for its residents. Single-stream collection means that all recyclable materials can be placed in the same bin without having to be sorted. A recent upgrade to the Arlington recycling program, all of the following materials can now be recycled: plastics 1-7 (yogurt cups, margarine tubs), aluminum foil & trays, milk & juice cartons, paperback and hardcover books, rigid plastics (buckets, flower pots, toys), empty aerosol cans, plastic bags (bag multiple bags in one bag), and wire hangers.

Arlington Virginia based organizations such as Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions (AIRE) are doing a wonderful job or raising eco-friendly awareness for Arlington VA home owners. They have programs in place to incentivise car-free living and are helping Arlington residents set environmentally friendly goals in 2010.

Because many of the condos in Arlington VA have been built within the last 10 years, they adhere to higher standards of efficiency when it comes to water conservation, insulating materials, heating / cooling, and improvement of air quality.

By working with an EcoBroker certified Realtor when shopping for a condo in Arlington VA you will have someone to guide you through the home buying process as well as helping you understand the eco-friendly differences between the homes you consider.

8 Tips To Click Through Emails Fast For Free Ads

June 16th, 2010

Frequently network marketing newcomers are restricted in advertising budget. One means to obtain free ads is by employing list builders who give out credits toward placing ads in exchange for getting and reading their advertising emails. Opening and reading sufficient emails to get substantial credit takes time. One such popular list builder is List Joe. I evolved a method to do this with speed. This is for Gmail, and Firefox. I’m not certain how this will behave in other programs, but the ideas will be the same.

Get a membership List Joe at listjoe.com. They will offer you an upgrade to paid for $197. If you do that, then this will be unnecessary. Non-paying members only will use this system.

My List Joe System

1) Create a List Joe Filter inside your Gmail, and also make a Label called ListJoe, for capturing each of your List Joe emails. (Gmail Help can tell you how) Emails ads start arriving right away after you confirm your subscription. Let one hundred or so collect.
2) Close all other tabs in the browser.
3) Mute your speakers – some ads have music or voice tracks, and you will have a lot open at the same time.
4) Open your ListJoe label(folder) and put your cursor anywhere the list of email titles. It’s not important which one you open, so just click anywhere on the list. When the email opens, click about half way down the page inside the right side scroll bar, and locate the link that says credit. As an example, it will contain something like this segment:

Click This Link To Earn Credits:
listjoe.com/c.php?j=MzIzMDI5&k=pRo9q5lf9mMnnqQP7JmN2exDH
(Find and save your weekly List Joe time-to-send-an-ad notice, so you don’t delete it.)

5) Usually it takes 1 or 2 clicks to get down to where the Credits link is in the email; now click on it. This opens a new browser window. Ignore it. Return to Gmail by clicking on your Gmail tab. The same List Joe email has remained open at the same place.
6) Return to the top of the email by clicking in the top of the right scroll bar. It takes the same amount of clicks it took you to scroll down. Click on “Delete.” To earn credits, each ad must run for 20 seconds, so save time by opening lots simultaneously.
7) Now open the next one. Duplicate the process until at least 10 browser windows open with ads, deleting each used email before opening the next one.
8) By this time the 20 seconds has expired on the first ads. From the right, one by one, right to left, click the X on the tab of the ad window and close each ad. When all are gone, start the process over again. Your store credits will show in the last ad you close.

Try to do 500 credits at a time, which can be completed in about 10 minutes. Just open, click, delete, open, click, delete, and so on. You will get really fast at this. Sometimes an ad will capture your notice; this shows you how to get attention for your own ads through List Joe. You get one ad every week with a free subscription; you receive a notice when it’s time to post. If you do this several times a week you will collect a good number of credits.

Great Plains Dynamics GP Upgrade Notes for Consultant

June 16th, 2010

Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP, or former name Great Plains Dynamics is available on Microsoft SQL Server platform only (current version GP 10.0), earlier versions: 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0 were also available as Great Plains Select on Pervasive SQL 2000 (which is successor of Btrieve) and Ctree/Faircom. In this small publication we will try to orient you even in the case when you are on Great Plains Accounting for DOS or Windows to upgrade it all the way up to current Dynamics GP version 10.0

1. If you are on Dynamics GP 8.0, or 9.0. Upgrade is simple enough, just take to consideration that Great Plains 8.0 is not compatible with SQL Server 2005. However if you have GP 8.0, you still can move it to SQL Server 2005 (just databases and user security – please request user logins transfer technical knowledge paper from your Great Plains VAR) and then do upgrade on SQL 2005 level. Upgrade is just one step – please apply the most recent service pack to GP 10.0, currently SP3 (December 2008)

2. If you are on GP 7.5, 7.0 on Microsoft SQL Server 2000. We recommend two steps: first step – upgrade to GP 8.0 and then go to 10.0 on the second step. Please, be aware, that if you are on Pervasive SQL 2000 or Ctree – you will need migration to Microsoft SQL Server – Migration tool is available from Microsoft Business Solutions, request it from your Great Plains Reseller or consultant, read next paragraph for additional details

3. Migration to Microsoft SQL Server. If you are with older version of Great Plains (please, if you are on GPA for DOS, be patient, your solution is few paragraphs down), we recommend you make upgrade on the same DB platform: Pervasive SQL or Ctree all the way up to version 7.5. And then on GP 7.5 you migrate to 7.5 on Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Migration tool works simple – it reads your data on Pervasive/Ctree and through ODBC connection moves it to GP 7.5 on MS SQL Server. Naturally – you will need to create blank companies on MS SQL Server with exactly the same account segmentation, plus refer for additional setup in Migration manual

4. Great Plains Accounting for DOS. We recommend you to migrate to GP 7.5, initially update GPA to version 9.5. If you do not have the budget to migrate away from GPA, you may consider strategy of moving GPA server from old Novell or Windows NT to Windows 2003 Server, where you mount it on Pervasive SQL 2000. Special setting must be done, this step requires consultant help

Fixing “Disk Read Error” while Migrating to Windows 7

June 16th, 2010

Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 7, has everything that a computer user can ask for. The users using systems based on Windows Vista operating system can also upgrade their systems to Windows 7 and enjoy all its advanced features. Migrating to Windows 7 can be easily performed by using a Windows 7 upgrade software. Moreover, the process does not require you to perform backup of your hard drive data. Migration to Windows 7 might be an task, but it can also leave your system in an unbootable state, if not performed systematically. In such situations, the data stored on your hard drive becomes inaccessible. To retrieve data, an up-to-date backup enables you to restore the data. But, if the backup is not maintained or inaccessible, then you will need to use advanced data recovery software to recover your data.

Consider a practical situation, where you start migrating from Windows Vista to Windows 7 operating system. However, after the first part of installation was over, the system was unable to boot the setup configuration. Left with no option, you go back to Windows Vista by deleting the setup information and cleaning the boot record. After doing so, when you attempt to reboot your system, you receive another booting error message:

A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press Cltr-Alt-Del to reboot.”

Once the above booting error message is displayed, the data stored on the hard drive becomes inaccessible. This error message pops up only when the migration process is not followed systematically.

Resolution:

To resolve the above booting error message and access the hard drive data, you will need to follow any of the below steps:

  1. Enter Windows Vista setup CD.

  2. Open the Recovery Console.

  3. Run CHKDSK command.

However, if the above steps fail to resolve your problem then you will need to reinstall Windows Vista. This resolution ensures that the system will be bootable and you can store new data on your hard drive. However, the resolution has a major disadvantage that your previously stored data will be deleted from your hard drive. To overcome this disadvantage, you can use an effective data recovery software to recover the formatted data. A data recovery tools incorporated high end scanning procedures to salvage the formatted hard drive data.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an easy-to-understand recovery application and allows even an novice user to recover formatted data. Supported by almost all file systems including, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS, and NTFS5, the data recovery utility is designed for Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000.
